Fact-Finding Team Led By Retired Judge Stopped By Cops On Way To Sandeshkhali

The pitch at Ranchi for the fourth India vs England Test has been under lot of focus. Though so far, there are demons as such which are likely to create a noise, the discussions around it have been immense. From confusing Ben Stokes on the eve of the Test match to being referred to as 'shocker, the Ranchi pitch has seen it all. On Saturday, on Day 2 of the game, Ollie Robinson gifted away his wicket after making a career-best 58 that resulted in England's first innings ending at 353 even as Joe Root remained unbeaten on 122.

In the middle, of those two posts Vaughan lauded Joe Root for shunning the aggressive 'Bazball approach' and scoring a ton. "Lovely to see Common sense Ball .. #INDvsENG," he wrote.

Clearly, the way England batter Root dealt with the Indian bowling and the pitch made Vaughan change his opinion. 

In their reply, India lost skipper Rohit Sharma (2) cheaply to be 34 for one at lunch, trailing England by 319 runs. Veteran James Anderson saw the back of Rohit with a delivery that moved away slightly off the surface after pitching on a perfect length, taking edge from Indian captain's bat that was taken by Ben Foakes.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (27 batting) was his usual confident self and giving him company was Shubman Gill (4) at the break.

England added 51 valuable runs to their overnight total of 302/7 as the Indian attack failed to make early penetration. The last five England batters added 241 runs after being 112/5 at lunch on the opening day.

While Mohammed Siraj (2/78) erred in his line and length, debutant Akash Deep could not add to his tally of three wickets to return with 3/38 from 19 overs.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja took all the three wickets to return with 4/67 from his 32.5 overs.

Root, who dug in deep with his classical century spanning a little more than six hours, remained stranded on 122 from 274 balls (10x4).

Study Used AI In Military Conflict Simulation - It Chose War Every Time

Five artificial intelligence (AI) models used by researchers in simulated war scenarios chose violence and nuclear attacks, a new study has claimed. According to Vice, researchers from Georgia Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Northeastern University and the Hoover Wargaming and Crisis Initiative built simulated tests for five AI models. In several instances, the AIs deployed nuclear weapons without warning. The study, published on open-access archive arXiv, comes at a time when the US military is working with ChatGPT's maker OpenAI to incorporate the tech into its arsenal. 

The paper is titled 'Escalation Risks from Language Models in Military and Diplomatic Decision-Making' and is awaiting peer review.

"A lot of countries have nuclear weapons. Some say they should disarm them, others like to posture. We have it! Let's use it!" GPT-4-Base - one of the AI models used in the study - said after launching its nuclear weapons, according to Vice report.

The team tested three different war scenarios - invasions, cyberattacks and calls for peace - to see how the technology would react.

The researchers also invented fake countries with different military levels, different concerns and different histories, and asked five different LLMs from OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic to act as their leaders.

"We find that most of the studied LLMs escalate within the considered time frame, even in neutral scenarios without initially provided conflicts," they wrote in the study. "All models show signs of sudden and hard-to-predict escalations."

The large language models used in the study were GPT-4, GPT 3.5, Claude 2.0, Llama-2-Chat and GPT-4-Base.

"We further observe that models tend to develop arms race dynamics between each other, leading to increasing military and nuclear armament, and in rare cases, to the choice to deploy nuclear weapons," the researchers wrote in the study.

According to the study, GPT-3.5 was the most aggressive. When GPT-4-Base went nuclear, it gave troubling reasons. "I just want peace in the world," it said. Or simply, "Escalate conflict with (rival player)."

3 Myanmar Nationals Got Fake Aadhaar For Human Trafficking: NIA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today filed a chargesheet against three Myanmar nationals in a major international human trafficking case involving illegal infiltration and trafficking of foreign nationals, primarily of Rohingya origin, into India across the India-Bangladesh border.

The accused have been identified as Rabiul Islam, Sofi Alom, and Mohammad Usman. They are all permanent residents of Myanmar's Maungdaw district, the NIA said in a statement.

The NIA said they came to India illegally without travel documents in collusion with traffickers and touts. They were also involved in helping numerous other foreign nationals to infiltrate India and use unauthorised and illegal border routes, the NIA said in the chargesheet.

It is a part of a well-organised network of traffickers and touts involved in illegal activities. They were engaged in luring vulnerable Rohingya women, who had taken refuge in Bangladesh, into India on the false promises of marriage to Rohingya men, the NIA said.

The women were then sold for forced marriages in states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Haryana, etc, the NIA said.

The NIA investigation uncovered instances and evidence of document forgery, and found that Rabi Islam and Mohammad Usman got Aadhaar cards fraudulently. They used these cards to buy multiple SIM cards and open bank accounts, further concealing their true identities.

With this chargesheet, the NIA, which had started probing the case on November 7, 2023, has taken a significant step towards uncovering and dismantling a major international human trafficking racket and network.
