Senior Police Officer Replaced In Bengal A Day After Poll Dates Announced

A day after it announced Bengal election dates - spread over eight phases starting March 27 - the Election Commission on Saturday replaced the top cop in charge of law and order for the state. Jawed Shamim, Additional Director-General (Law & Order) of Bengal Police, effectively second only to the Director-General of Police, was shunted to head the fire services department. Jag Mohan, who was Director-General (Fire Services), has replaced Mr Shamim.

महाराष्ट्र में लगातार चौथे दिन शनिवार को कोविड-19 के 8,000 से अधिक नए मामले आए, जिससे राज्य में संक्रमण के कुल मामले बढ़कर 21,46,777 हो गए. स्वास्थ्य विभाग के एक अधिकारी ने यह जानकारी दी. राज्य में संक्रमण के 8,623 नए मामले आए और 51 मौतें हुईं. अधिकारी ने कहा कि महामारी के कारण राज्य में मौत का आंकड़ा 52,092 तक पहुंच गया. पूर्वी महाराष्ट्र के अमरावती शहर में लॉकडाउन एक सप्ताह के लिए बढ़ा दिया गया.
