Trinamool's Mahua Moitra Drops Media Houses As Parties In Defamation Case

Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra on Tuesday sought to delete as parties several media houses from her petition before the Delhi High Court against circulation of alleged fake and defamatory content against her.

Counsel for Ms Moitra, while stating that he was not pressing any interim relief in the matter at this stage, told Justice Sachin Datta that the lawsuit would only continue against two defendants -- BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai.

Mr Dubey has accused Ms Moitra of taking bribe from a businessman to ask questions in Parliament and urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to constitute an inquiry committee to look into the charges against her.

Citing a letter he received from advocate Mr Dehadrai, Mr Dubey has said the lawyer shared "irrefutable" evidence of bribes allegedly being given to the Trinamool leader by a businessman.

In his letter to the Lok Sabha speaker, Mr Dubey claimed that 50 of the 61 questions she asked in the Lok Sabha till recently were focused on the Adani Group, the business conglomerate which the Trinamool MP has often accused of malpractices, more so after it was at the receiving end of a critical report by short seller Hindenburg Research.

The court on Tuesday permitted the Trinamool MP to file an amended memo of parties in view of her wish to delete all defendants except Mr Dubey and Mr Dehadrai, and also bring appropriate changes in the pleadings in the matter.

Lawyer Abhimanyu Bhandari, appearing for Mr Dubey, argued that Ms Moitra has committed perjury as after denying all allegations against her, she has subsequently accepted sharing her login credentials with a businessman.

The court listed the case for hearing in December.

Ms Moitra has said lawyer Mr Dehadrai was her close friend and the recent cessation of this friendship took an acrimonious turn and he allegedly "resorted to sending vile, threatening, vulgar messages to the plaintiff and also trespassed into plaintiff's official residence and stole some personal possessions of the plaintiff including her pet dog Henry (the same was returned later). Against such actions, the plaintiff had filed two police complaints…and the same were later withdrawn by the plaintiff on account of settlement talks".

The Lok Sabha member from Krishnanagar in West Bengal has, in her plea, sought permanent injunction against Mr Dubey, Mr Dehadrai, social media platform X, search engine Google, YouTube and 15 media houses, and to restrain them from making, publishing, circulating per se defamatory, ex facie false and malicious statements against her. She has also sought damages.

In her plea in the high court, Ms Moitra has denied the allegations and claimed they were designed to damage her reputation.

She has also provisionally valued the damages at Rs 2 crore and said the defendants be directed to pay her damages that shall be quantified at a later stage on account of the defamatory, derogatory and baseless statements made by Mr Dubey and Mr Dehadrai and published by X, Google and several media houses on their respective platforms.

Congress Leader Defends Deepika Padukone Over 'Koffee With Karan' Remarks

Congress's Supriya Shrinate has hit out at trolls who have been trolling actor Deepika Padukone for her remarks on open relationship at a chat show.

Deepika Padukone and her husband Ranveer Singh were the guests at the first episode of the 'Koffee With Karan' Season 8 where the couple spoke about their relationship and the period when Deepika suffered with mental health.

Deepika said she wasn't committed to Ranveer and that she was also meeting some other men when they started dating.

"I wanted to be single for a while because I had come from difficult relationships. I was going through a phase where I said 'I just don't want to be attached, don't want to be committed'. And I had fun! And then he comes along, so I didn't commit, until he proposed to me. There was no 'commitment as such. Even if we were technically allowed to see other people, we would just keep coming back to each other," Deepika had said.

Since then, Deepika has been facing a barrage of trolling.

Calling Deepika a "super achiever", Supriya Shrinate praised the actor for talking about her struggle with mental health, and Ranveer Singh for supporting her.

"A young woman, who is a super achiever talks about her struggles with mental health - she actually emboldens many more to deal with this unspoken demon. A young man, no mean achiever either, talks about how he stood by her when she went through the trauma," she said on X - formerly known as Twitter.

She slammed the trollers for the actor's character assassination. "Instead of applauding their courage to speak about issues that we brush under the carpet as a society - they, especially the woman has become the subject of vicious trolling, character assassination and vulgar memes."

"Why can't people handle reality, why do raw human emotions make them uncomfortable, why does everything have to be candy flossed, why have people become this bitter, so full of hate, so inhumane and so judgemental?," Ms Shrinate argued.

Ms Shrinate has come out in Deepika's support days after Karan Johar addressed the hate towards Deepika. "Trolling gets you nowhere. You are landing nowhere. You're filling and brimming your heart with negativity but landing nowhere because what's gonna happen will happen to the people you're trolling. If they're gonna meet the success, they will. If they're gonna fail, they will. It has nothing to do with you," Mr Johar said during an Instagram live.

Bengaluru Man Inappropriately Touches Woman At Mall, Police Launch Probe

The police in Bengaluru is looking for a man who is seen touching a woman inappropriately in a video circulating on social media. The police said that the incident took place at the gaming zone of Lulu Mall on Sunday (October 29). They haven't released the name of the man but said he is 45 years old.

The short clip shows the man walking around in the crowded gaming area. He suddenly spots a woman and rushes towards her, deliberately touching her inappropriately from the back. However, the woman did not react to the misconduct perhaps because of the man bumped into her without knowledge or due to overcrowding.

He immediately walks away as seen in the video, recorded by a person present in the gaming area. The camera then follows the man and shows him moving around the gaming section with hands in his pockets.

The video was initially posted on Instagram and appeared on other social platforms like X (formerly Twitter). One user who goes by the handle Hate Detector wrote in the caption, "The video of a young woman being sexually harassed by an elderly man at a mall in #Bengaluru went viral on social media following which the #BengaluruPolice began a probe. The video shows the accused man deliberately touching the back of the woman at the games zone in the crowded mall. The video shows the man after the deliberate misbehaviour moving on to another place. The victim had not protested after the misconduct. The video was uploaded on an Instagram account and went viral on social media. The uploader had stated the incident had taken place at the famous #LuluMall."

Quoting the user who originally posted the video, the X post further said, "Recorded this incident today evening around 6.30 p.m. in #LuluMallFunturaBengaluru. This man in the video was doing such a thing to the random women and girls around here. 'First when I saw him in a very crowded area, I felt suspicious about him and followed him recording the video. Then I got this."

The man who recorded the clip also approached the security guards at the mall and informed them about the same. However, the man had disappeared by then.

The police was then informed about the incident and an investigation was launched.

'Not Matured, Great': Ex-Pak Captain Namedrops 'Rohit' In Advice To Babar

With four defeats on the bounce, Pakistan's hopes of qualiying for the semi-finals of the Cricket World Cup 2023 hangs by a thread. On Friday, Pakistan suffered a heartbreaking one-wicket loss to South Africa in Chennai. Amid Pakistan's struggles in the ongoing Cricket World Cup, former skipper Mohammad Hafeez shared his views on Babar's leadership skills. Hafeez feels despite being in charge of the team for nearly three years, Babar lacks maturity as a captain, adding that it is too early to compare him with greats of Pakistan cricket.

"When it comes to Babar's captaincy, that maturity isn't quite there yet. He has been in charge of the team for three years and the tactical growth hasn't been there either. When he's called a great Pakistan player, then I have doubts over it. Those who say that probably haven't seen greats of the game - from Pakistan and around the world. Yes, he is a very, very good player. He is not great yet. He has to prove a lot of right things - and there are stages yet to come in his career. We are putting a tag on him before he's reached those stages. That's pressure on him, and when he's not able to perform in big tournaments, the load of expectations is so high, that people then deal it in a wrong way," Hafeez said on PTV Sports.

Giving the example of India captain Rohit Sharma, who is one of the top scorers in the tournament so far, Hafeez urged Babar to lead the team from the front, adding that he needs to bring aggression into his game.

"If Babar thinks that the pressure is getting the better of him or it has affected his game, then he has to make the whether he wants to continue like this or finish his career like of some of Pakistan's greatest players. Right now, he is the captain of Pakistan, so it we should back Babar. But, he has to improve his game, in terms of aggression. Rohit Sharma has been successful because he is leading from the front," he added.

Opinion: Daily Despatch: Hamas Releases 2 Israeli-American Hostages

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

In a surprise move late Friday night, Hamas released two of the more than 200 hostages held in Gaza since October 7. The hostages, Judith (59) and Natalie Raanan (17), a mother and daughter from Chicago, are Israeli-American citizens. They were handed over to the Red Cross and then transferred to the US Embassy in Jerusalem. In an official statement, Hamas claimed that the sudden release of two hostages was spurred by "humanitarian reasons".

In an interview with Israeli media, Natalie's father Uri Raanan said his daughter felt fine, and that no harm was done to her while she was held hostage." She is happy to be back home, and I hope she will be able to celebrate her birthday next week in Chicago," he said.

Judith and Natalie Raanan arrived in Israel a month and a half ago to celebrate the 85th birthday of Judith's mother Tamar Levitan in the southern kibbutz of Nahal Oz. On the morning of October 7, the kibbutz was attacked by Hamas and the two women were among those taken hostage.

The release of the two hostages has raised hope that more will be freed by Hamas. This raises questions about the expected Israeli ground invasion of Gaza.

"This is a situation we have never seen before. Many Israelis are asking the army to delay the ground offensive in order to prioritize the release of the many hostages. I think that is the right thing to do," said Eran Etzion, former head of policy planning at Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with Channel 12.

On Friday a journalist asked US President Joe Biden whether Israel should delay its ground invasion of Gaza until more hostages are released.

"Yes," the President replied, but later White House spokesperson Ben LaBolt stated that Biden did not fully hear the question due to noise from the engines of Air Force One and that the President thought he was replying to whether he would like to see more hostages freed.

Israeli Army Spokesperson Daniel Hagari countered Hamas' claim that the two hostages were freed because of humanitarian reasons.

"Hamas is presenting itself to the world as one that releases hostages for humanitarian reasons, but in reality, we are talking about a murderous terror group, which at this hour is holding babies, children, women, and elderly captive," he stated. He also hinted that the fighting would take many more weeks.

In an effort at brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, representatives from a long list of countries will meet in Egyptian capital Cairo on Saturday. On Friday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced that he had invited top officials from Europe, Qatar and Turkey to take part in the peace summit. No breakthrough is expected from the summit because major players of the latest crisis are not taking part. Israel, the US, Hamas or for that matter, Iran, are all absent as the leaders meet in Cairo.

In an interview to Politico, veteran Lebanese politician Walid Jumblatt expressed skepticism over the Cairo summit.

"They are non-players," he said about the countries taking part."They don't have any influence."

Mass protests were held on Friday in support of Hamas and Gaza in Cairo. At some point the protests even spread to Tahrir Square, where protests in 2011 overthrew former President Hosni Mubarak.

Both Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan's King Abdullah II have serious security concerns about the war in Gaza, especially regarding the possible displacement of the Gazan population. Both leaders have strongly rejected the idea of letting Palestinian refugees into Jordan and Egypt. "No refugees in Jordan, no refugees in Egypt," the Jordanian monarch said Wednesday.

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi also warned that an attempt to push Gazans into Egypt would wreck peace in the region.

Gazans are still waiting for aid trucks to pass into Gaza from Egypt. Trucks on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border are ready to move into Gaza, but so far, there's no green signal.

Israel had on Wednesday accepted Biden's request to allow some humanitarian aid to be delivered. But as of late Friday night, no aid trucks had passed the border.

According to Palestinian Red Crescent, Israel has issued an evacuation order for the al-Quds Hospital in Gaza city. The hospital is currently treating approximately 400 patients, and thousands of internally displaced people are staying at the hospital or its close vicinity, according to The Red Crescent.

The Israeli Army denies any new evacuation order and argues that the first order given a week ago to the population of north Gaza is still valid.

According to Euro-Med Monitor, at least 4,079 Palestinians have been killed since October 7. Among the dead are 1,413 children and 806 women. More than 15,000 Palestinians have been injured. Some 1,400 Israelis were killed in the Hamas terror attack on Israeli villages on October 7. The Israeli medical team of first responders on Friday announced that they are still recovering bodies of those killed in the deadly attack.

All of Friday, attacks continued on Israel's northern border to Lebanon. The Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah militia claimed responsibility for the attacks that included at least 30 rockets and several anti-tank missiles.

The Israel Defense Force said it carried out airstrikes against a number of Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon in response.

In a previously unseen development, the Iran-backed Yemenite Houthi movement is believed to have fired multiple missiles in the direction of Israel late Thursday.

The USS Carney, a US Navy-guided missile destroyer in the northern Red Sea, shot down the missiles and drones launched by Houthis in Yemen, the Pentagon stated.

Watch: The Brave Six Who Stood Beneath An Exploding Nuclear Bomb

The world has made a lot of progress in developing nuclear power in the past few decades. It all started with the Second World War, and since then, the world has crossed many milestones, making nuclear weapons more potent.

When nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world witnessed the commencement of the atomic age. Subsequently, extensive research and development efforts have been dedicated to advancing these formidable capabilities. To assess the impact of nuclear weapons on humans, the US undertook an exceptionally audacious experiment.

According to NPR, on July 19, 1957, five Air Force officers and one photographer stood together on a patch of ground about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. They'd marked the spot "Ground Zero, Population 5" on a hand-lettered sign hammered into the soft ground right next to them. In a video from that time, two F-89 jets roar into view, and one of them shoots off a nuclear missile carrying an atomic warhead.

The soldiers wait. There is a countdown; 18,500 feet above them, the missile is detonated and blows up. Which means these men intentionally stood directly underneath an exploding 2-kiloton nuclear bomb. One of them, at the key moment (he's wearing sunglasses), looks up.

Watch the video here:

According to Smithsonian Magazine, "Those five guys were Colonel Sidney Bruce, Lieutenant Colonel Frank P Ball, Major Norman "Bodie" Bodinger, Major John Hughes, Don Lutrel, and George Yoshitake (the cameraman, not seen)."

According to Vice News, after World War II, the UK, USSR, and US detonated more than 2,000 atomic bombs. In Britain, 20,000 soldiers witnessed atomic blasts conducted by their own government. Only a few of them are still alive today, and the nuclear glow of the mushroom cloud they witnessed still haunts them. "Nuclear detonations-that was the defining point in my life," Douglas Hern, a British soldier who experienced five nuclear bomb tests, told Motherboard.

"When the flash hit you, you could see the x-rays of your hands through your closed eyes," he said. "Then the heat hit you, and that was as if someone my size had caught fire and walked through me. It was an experience that was unearthing. It was so strange. There were guys with bruises and broken legs. We couldn't believe it. To say it was frightening is an understatement. I think it all shocked us into silence."

Zomato, McDonald's Fined Rs 1 Lakh For Sending Non-Veg Food In Place Of Veg

Online food ordering and delivery platform Zomato today said a penalty of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed on it and restaurant partner McDonald's by the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, Jodhpur, for alleged wrongful delivery of non-vegetarian food in place of a vegetarian food order.

The company is in the process of filing an appeal against the order, Zomato said in a regulatory filing.

The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum (II) Jodhpur has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1 lakh for violation of Consumer Protection Act, 2019 on Zomato and McDonald's, the restaurant partner whose food was delivered through it, and awarded Rs 5,000 as cost of litigation, it said.

"Both monetary penalty and cost of litigation are to be borne jointly and severally by Zomato and McDonald's," it added.

Further, Zomato said it "is in the process of filing an appeal against the said order and based on the advice from its external counsels, Zomato believes it has a good case on merits." "The current litigation pertains to an alleged wrongful delivery of non-vegetarian food items in place of vegetarian food items," the company said.

The terms of service which govern Zomato's relationship with the customer clarify that Zomato is merely a facilitator for the sale of food and the restaurant partner is responsible for any deficiency in service, wrong delivery of order/order mismatch and quality, it added.

"The order failed to appreciate the distinction in responsibility and imposed a joint and several monetary penalty on Zomato and McDonald's under the relevant provisions of Consumer Protection Act, 2019," the company said, adding that the order has no material financial, operational or any other kind of impact on it.

"No Water Tap Will Be Opened Until...": Israel's Big Warning For Gaza

Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz vowed Thursday his country would not allow basic resources or humanitarian aid into Gaza until Hamas released the people it kidnapped during its surprise weekend onslaught.

"Humanitarian aid to Gaza? No electric switch will be turned on, no water tap will be opened and no fuel truck will enter until the Israeli abductees are returned home," he said in a statement.

Around 150 Israelis, foreigners and dual nationals were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip by Hamas group as part of the Saturday attack that killed more than 1,200 people in Israeli towns and communities around the enclave.

Israel has in turn launched a withering air campaign against Hamas group in the blockaded Gaza Strip, killing around 1,200 people.

In recent days Israel announced a "complete seige" on Gaza, cutting off water, fuel and electricity supplies. The Palestinian territory's sole power plant shut down on Wednesday after running out of fuel.

NDTV Explains: Was Israel Warned Of Hamas' Attack And What Did Egypt Say?

Israeli state media said Thursday its military did receive intel about a Hamas attack - three days before a rocket barrage and roving squads of gunmen killed over a thousand people - but opted not to take action. Media reports said Israel did not act because Egypt did not specify the magnitude of the attack. Reports also said Egypt's warning was played down as Israel was focused on settlers in the West Bank.

Also, British publication The Financial Times quoted two unnamed Israeli officials as saying the intel was not actionable; i.e., it did not have details of how the attack might unfold.

LIVE COVERAGE: Israel Vows Hamas's Destruction After Deadly Attack

Cairo has not formally commented on report it may have offered an early warning, but it does have close ties with Tel Aviv and often acts as a mediator in its disputes with Gaza.

Egypt, meanwhile, has locked down its Rafeh border crossing with Gaza, Reuters reported Tuesday.

This came as Israel pounded the densely-populated Palestinian territory that is home to 2.3 million people, most of whom are civilians. Israel's assault has alarmed Egypt; Cairo has urged Tel Aviv to provide safe passage for civilians rather than encourage them to flee into its territory, Reuters reported.

On Monday, when news first broke that Israel may have been warned of Hamas' strike, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office denied Egypt's claims on intel inputs.

An Egyptian official told the Associated Press the Israelis had been warned of "something big" about to happen, although, the official admitted, this was without elaboration.

US Confirms Egypt Warning

On Wednesday, however, a United States Senator confirmed intel had been shared.

Republican Michael McCaul of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, said, "We know Egypt warned Israel three days prior. The question is, 'at what level' (was the warning)."

READ | Egypt Warned Israel Three Days Before Hamas Attack: US Lawmaker

Back-and-forth between Israel and Egypt (and the US) over intel underline the chaos that followed Hamas' attack. Questions have been asked of the Iron Dome aerial defence system, which failed to intercept many of the estimated 5,000 rockets fired by Hamas.

Questions have also been asked of Mossad and Shin Bet, the external and internal intel agencies; the former is seen as one of the best, and is ranked alongside the US' CIA.

Mossad's failure to detect the attack is also bad news for the US, which is a key Israel ally. "We're not quite sure how we missed it... how Israel missed it," Mr McCaul said.

Israel's Big Warning For Gaza

Israel has launched a massive military operation in retaliation to Hamas' attacks, including blocking all supplies of food, fuel, medicine and water to the Gaza Strip.

Much of the global community has been silent so far in the face of Israel's "complete siege". And today Energy Minister Israel Kantz denied all humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.

"No electric switch will be turned on, no water tap will be opened and no fuel truck will enter until the Israeli abductees (hostages taken by the Hamas) are returned," he said.

Israel Prepping Ground Assault

Tel Aviv's attack so far has been limited to aerial and artillery strikes but reports indicate it is now ready to launch what will likely be a brutal and bloody ground attack.

This is, however, going to be complicated by the densely populated and packed urban terrain and Hamas' network of underground tunnels, and the danger it poses to hostages.

1,100 Dead, 3 Lakh Displaced, Food Running Out: UN Report On Gaza Crisis

No power supply, a looming food and water crisis, more than 3 lakh people displaced and over 1,100 dead - as Israel strikes backs after Hamas' shocking attack, the Gaza Strip is living its worst nightmare. As Israel gears up to intensify the counterstrike, the situation in the 365 sq km-strip, known as an open-air prison, is set to worsen.

A situation report put out by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) paints a scary picture of the situation in the densely populated Gaza Strip, where more than 2 million people are caught in the Israel-Hamas crossfire.

The Israel Retaliation

The UNRWA report says 1,100 people have been killed in Gaza since October 7, when Israel hit back after Hamas' shocking attack on its cities. These include 171 women and 326 children. Over 5,000 are injured. A total of 12 UN staff members have died since October 7.

"They included five teachers at UNRWA schools, one gynecologist, one engineer, one psychological counselor and three support staff. Some were killed in their homes with their families," a UN statement said. In its all-out counter-attack, Israel has bombed densely-populated enclaves in Gaza. Many of the targets include civilian buildings that Israel claims were being used for Hamas' activities.

The Israel Defence Forces yesterday posted on X visuals of a strike on Islamic University in Gaza. "Hamas transformed an institute of knowledge into an institute of destruction," the post says.

The Siege Of Gaza

Alongside its military offensive, Israel has imposed a complete siege of Gaza, cutting off food, water and electricity supply. According to UNRWA, more than 3 lakh people have been displaced. The power blackout has badly hit healthcare units in the Strip. Fabrizio Carboni, Red Cross's regional director for the Near and Middle East, has told news agency AFP that as Gaza is deprived of electricity, "hospitals lose power, putting newborns in incubators and elderly patients on oxygen at risk". "Without electricity, hospitals risk turning into morgues," he has said.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Energy Minister Israel Katz has said Tel Aviv has no plan to restore electricity supply to Gaza Strip. "No electrical switch will be turned on, no water hydrant will be opened and no fuel truck will enter until the Israeli abductees are returned home. Humanitarian for humanitarian. And no one will preach us

morals," he has posted.

Time - And Supplies - Running Out

According to the UNRWA report, over 2 lakh people are hiding in 92 schools it runs. These shelters are overcrowded and food stocks are running out. "A water crisis is looming in UNRWA emergency shelters and across the Gaza Strip due to damaged infrastructure, lack of electricity needed to operate pumps and desalination plants, and limited supply of water in the local market. Water supplies cannot be replenished due to the total blockade on the Gaza Strip by the Israelis authorities," the UN report said.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

According to UNRWA, only eight out of the 22 health centres it runs in Gaza are currently operational for a few hours daily. "Diesel reserves to run the health centres are critically decreasing," it has said.

The UNRWA's diesel stocks will last for 13 days, the report said, warning a massive impact on its operations unless supplies resume.

A Humanitarian Crisis

Essential supplies must be ordered into Gaza now, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appealed after Israel announced the siege in Gaza. "Crucial life-saving supplies - including fuel, food and water -- must be allowed into Gaza. We need rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access now," he posted on X.

Shortly after Hamas' shocking attack, which has claimed more than 1,200 lives in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned a forceful retaliation and asked residents of Gaza to "leave now".

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

The question is: where will they flee? A narrow strip of land looking out to the Mediterranean Sea, Gaza has Israel on one side and Egypt on the other. There are two entry and exit points to Gaza - Erez Crossing with Israel in the north and Rafah Crossing with Egypt in the south. Israel controls Gaza's airspace and its waters.

With borders shut amid the war and rockets raining from the sky, Gazans have no escape.

"Putting Child To Death Through Court?" Chief Justice In Abortion Case

In strong observations while hearing a woman's request to terminate a 26-week pregnancy, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud asked if the petitioner wanted permission to kill the child through a court order.

The Supreme Court has asked the woman's counsel and the centre's lawyer to speak to her before the next hearing tomorrow.

The three-judge bench led by the Chief Justice of India is hearing the married woman's petition for permission to abort the 26-week pregnancy. A mother of two, the woman has said she is suffering from depression and is not in a position to raise a third child, emotionally or financially.

On October 9, the court had allowed her to proceed with the pregnancy. The centre then sought a recall of the order, citing the advice of a panel of doctors at AIIMS Delhi against the abortion. Yesterday, a two-judge bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice BV Nagarathna gave a split verdict in the matter. Following this, the Chief Justice of India-led bench took up the matter today.

Questioning why the woman did not seek permission for abortion earlier, the Chief Justice asked, "What was she doing for 26 weeks? She already has two children? Why come now?"

"Do we issue an order for the child's death through a judicial ruling?" he added.

Appearing for the centre, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati cited the doctors' report that says the situation is very delicate and sensitive. "The child is ready to be born. It won't be right to abort because the foetus shows signs of life. The order to abort must be recalled," she said.

The Centre's lawyer said the petitioner's counsel has cited a court ruling in a rape survivor's plea for permission to abort. "She (petitioner) is no rape survivor. She is not a minor. What was she doing for 26 weeks?"

The Chief Justice of India stressed that the baby was not represented in the matter. "We have to look into the rights of the unborn child," he said.

The Supreme Court said one option was to let the child be born, and the government can then look after it. It asked the woman if she could wait for a few more weeks and then go for a normal delivery. The court underlined that a hasty delivery at this point may lead to deformities in the foetus. "If the child is born with deformities now, no one will want to adopt," the Chief Justice said.

Babar "Couldn't Do Well...": Akhtar's Message To Star Ahead Of India Clash

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan cricket team successfully chased a record high target of 345 against Sri Lanka at the Cricket World Cup 2023 on Tuesday. Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique scored tons as Pakistan registered the highest ever successful chase in World Cup history. However, Babar Azam could not impact the game in a big way as he was out for just 10. For the second time in Cricket World Cup 2023, Babar Azam failed. In Pakistan's first match against Netherlands, Babar Azam was out for  just 5.

Pakistan's next match is against India and before the match, fast bowling great Shoaib Akhtar has a message for Babar Azam.

"Yes, Babar Azam could not do well again. But we have found another player like Babar Azam in Abdullah Shafique. Babar is obviously a great player, but you need to go out there and win in bigger games like these. I am sure you will be able to do that in days to come. I hope you play big knocks in big games," Shoaib Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

Akhtar also backed the Pakistan bowlers who conceded 344 runs. "As far as bowling is concerned, I will supports them. I really want Pakistan to go out there and do well. I won't criticise Pakistan's bowling as I had said that these are our kids and will back them. These are not ODI bowlers yet. Bowling 10 overs is a different thing. We played just 12 ODIs last year. This same bowling unit will start to perform in the upcoming two or three matches. I can understand the disappointment, but don't give up on them," Akhtar said.

Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique clubbed centuries as Pakistan chased down the highest target in World Cup history to beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The diminutive Rizwan overcame leg cramps to score a 121-ball 131 not out while Shafique hit a 103-ball 113 as Pakistan overhauled their 345-run target in 48.2 overs.

The victory gives Pakistan two wins in as many games and a huge boost in confidence ahead of their high-profile clash against India in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

"Always proud when you perform like that. It was difficult and when you chase like that, it's special," said Rizwan.

"Every player in the dressing room had the belief we can chase that."

On his cramping, he said: "Sometimes cramps, sometimes acting!"

Sri Lanka's imposing total of 344-9 was built around brilliant hundreds from Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama.

"I thought with the way the wicket behaved, we were 20-25 runs short," said Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka.

Rizwan cracked eight boundaries and three sixes while Shafique's knock had ten boundaries and three sixes as Pakistan improved on the previous highest World Cup chase of 328 by Ireland against England in Bangalore in 2011.

Rizwan added a match-turning 176 run stand for the third wicket with Shafique and another 95 for the fourth with Saud Shakeel who made a 30-ball 31.

Rizwan and Shafique lifted Pakistan from a disastrous start in which they lost Imam-ul-Haq (12) and skipper Babar Azam (ten) to pacer Dilshan Madushanka.

Justin Trudeau Trolled Again, Hilarious Memes Go Viral On Social Media

In a recent incident adding to the growing list of controversies surrounding Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister is now being trolled for raising India with various global leaders.

Justin Trudeau on Sunday discussed India ties with the king of Jordan amid a huge row over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

"The Canadian Prime Minister spoke with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan on Sunday and he provided "an update on the situation between Canada and India, underscoring the importance of respecting the rule of law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," his office said in a statement.

This came hours after Justin Trudeau spoke to UAE president Mohamed Bin Zayed about India and the "rule of law". "On the phone today, His Highness @MohamedBinZayed and I spoke about the current situation in Israel. We expressed our deep concern and discussed the need to protect civilian life. We also spoke about India and the importance of upholding - and respecting - the rule of law," Justin Trudeau had posted on social networking platform X on Sunday.

On social media, reactions were hilarious and overwhelmingly negative - calling him out for 'complaining' about India. Several users shared hilarious memes on X - formerly known as Twitter.

The Canadian Prime Minister drew huge criticism earlier this month over a video in which he was seen sticking out his tongue and winking at the House speaker.

Last month, a huge row had erupted after the Canadian Parliament gave a standing ovation to a Ukrainian World War II veteran who had fought alongside the Nazis.

"It was a horrendous violation of the memory of the millions of people who died in the Holocaust, and was deeply, deeply painful for Jewish people." Trudeau had said.

Watch: Kohli Pulls Off Sharp Catch At Slips. Bumrah's Reaction Says It All

Virat Kohli pulled off a brilliant catch at slips to provide India with an early breakthrough during the Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Australia in Chennai on Sunday. Mitchell Marsh looked nervous at the start of his innings and he ended up edging a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah straight towards the slips. Kohli was ready for the catch and made no mistake in completing a sharp chance. The excitement was clear on Bumrah's face as celebrations erupted following the important wicket.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first against India.

Marcus Stoinis misses out in Chennai for the five-time winners due to a hamstring injury as the Aussies head into their 150th ODI fixture with India. The stadium was half-full before the first ball, but with thousands waiting outside. The match is expected to witness a packed house in contrast to the mostly empty stadiums seen through the tournament so far.

Cummins said injured Travis Head was "on a couch in Adelaide" while Sean Abbott, Josh Inglis and Stoinis had also missed out.

India opener Shubman Gill has not recovered from dengue fever. Ishan Kishan has made the team to open the batting.

India remain one of the favourites to win the 50-over crown at home and end their world title drought since the 2013 Champions Trophy.

They last won the World Cup in 2011.

First Pics Of India's Gaganyaan Craft Which Will Take Humans To Space In 2024

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today released pictures of the Gaganyaan spacecraft which is set to take humans to space in December 2024. The space agency also said that they will soon start unmanned flight tests for the mission.

"ISRO to commence unmanned flight tests for the Gaganyaan mission. Preparations for the Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission-1 (TV-D1), which demonstrates the performance of the Crew Escape System, are underway," the agency said in a tweet.

The Gaganyaan project would demonstrate India's capability of taking a crew of two to three members to a circular orbit of about 400 km around the earth for a one-to-three days mission and bring them back safely to earth, by landing in a designated location in Indian sea waters.

"The success of this test flight will set the stage for the remaining qualification tests and unmanned missions, leading to the first Gaganyaan mission with Indian astronauts," ISRO said.

The agency in a release regarding the First Crew Module for Gaganyaan test flight said that the first development flight Test Vehicle (TV-D1) is in the final stages of preparation.

"The Test Vehicle is a single-stage liquid rocket developed for this abort mission. The payloads consist of the Crew Module (CM) and Crew Escape Systems (CES) with their fast-acting solid motors, along with CM fairing (CMF) and Interface Adapters. This flight will simulate the abort condition during the ascent trajectory corresponding to a Mach number of 1.2 encountered in the Gaganyaan mission," the release said.

The Crew Module after integration underwent various electrical testing, at ISRO's facility in Bengaluru, including an acoustic test and was dispatched to SDSC-SHAR on August 13, the release added.

Iranian Activist Narges Mohammadi Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2023 for her fight against the oppression of women. She remains in jail as she is honoured with the award.

"The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2023 #NobelPeacePrize to Narges Mohammadi for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all," authorities announced.

She has been arrested 13 times, convicted five times and sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes, said the Nobel Prize website.

"Her brave struggle has come with tremendous personal costs," it said.

Ms Mohammadi is among the leading human rights activists in Iran, which is among the worst countries for women rights. Violent protests had broken out in the country after Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish woman, was killed in the custody of the morality police.

"She has campaigned for women's rights and the abolition of the death penalty," the website said.

The Nobel laureate is now serving multiple sentences at a prison in Tehran for charges that include spreading propaganda against the state, reports suggest.

"American Dream To American Nightmare": Migrant Crisis Hits New York

The 'American dream' has triggered a big crisis in New York. The quest for a better life and more opportunities has thousands of immigrants moving to the Big Apple. But at what cost? A housing crisis and a big burden on the administration.

New York City received 118,000 migrants since last year, over 60,000 of them housed in the city's shelter system. But officials are struggling to respond to their needs.

Mayor Eric Adams has called it a humanitarian crisis that could "destroy New York City".

Most migrants came to New York from countries in South America and West Africa in hopes of safety, work and stability. But integrating them into a new city isn't an easy task - both for the migrants and the administration.

The migrants are typically housed in hotels, office buildings and school gyms. The city administration has been paying for budget hotels to house them, but it is now running out of housing options.

The migrant influx could cost $12 billion over three years, claims Mayor Adams who has previously looked into housing migrants in parking lots and cruise ships.

Eric Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul have both blamed the Joe Biden's administration for not providing enough support for the migrant crisis.

New Yorkers, aware of the acute crisis, seek a humanitarian approach to the issue and strategic allocation of resources.

"I'm not sure if New York is a good place to be for somebody who wants to start afresh. There's a huge housing crisis, so maybe, it's not the perfect place for immigrants," opines a woman, an immigrant herself.

Some others think the "American dream" is turning out to be a "nightmare", but still a lot can be done to help them.

"It's a crisis even for the people migrating to New York. They are coming from horrible places and switching for opportunities - just like the American dream from so many years ago. The American dream is actually being an American nightmare.New York has very limited space but also a lot of fun space. If we allocate some of those places to help the migrants, that'll be awesome," says a New Yorker.

Besides housing, the migrants are also facing difficulties in finding work as well. Before they can officially start working, they must get a work permit which can take up to six months to process. Without a permit, they can only work as undocumented workers, who are often overworked and underpaid.

Man Had Disagreement With Daughter. Her Revenge Is Too Funny To be Missed

A man has shared a sweet revenge her daughter took after a minor disagreement over an issue. She prepared a notice of "father on sale" and put it outside the door of her house. The eight-year-old also placed a bid for her father at Rs 200,000. Sharing the photo of the notice on X (formerly Twitter), the man added a funny note that he thinks he is not "valued enough". The post has amassed more than 28,000 views and several users have reacted to it.

"To the contrary, I think that he values you very highly because I remember how at their age we tend to think that 2 lakhs is helluva lot of money," one user commented.

"Aww. So much love to her. May she always be this badass," another user said.

The man also interacted with other users who reacted to the post. "Here's some additional context: she asked me my monthly salary before making that note. Then she shrugged and kept this amount because too bored to add more zeroes," he said in a follow-up post.

There have been several such instances where fathers have replied hilariously to their daughters. One such conversation was shared by MoMo on Twitter (now rebranded as X) last year.

In it, the father roasted the woman over a blood report and it went viral on the internet.

The father informed that he has picked up the blood reports of the daughter and a friend. To which, the daughter replied "okay," and then he compared their blood reports. "Reports mai bhi wo A+ hai aur tu B- (In the reports she is also A+ and you are B-)," the father wrote.

Along with the screenshot, the woman wrote, "No one can roast you better than your father."

US Man's Deadly Brain Disease Linked To Covid-19

Coronavirus can cause brain fog, hair loss, and even erectile dysfunction, and now a new case in New York shows that it can also contribute to fatal prion disease.

A 62-year-old man was admitted to a hospital in New York, Mount Sinai Queens Hospital Center, after he had difficulty walking and showed signs of rapidly progressive dementia, according to American Journal of Case Reports

The paper states, "Clinically, he experienced worsening neurological function after having been COVID-19 positive on admission."

The patient was eventually diagnosed with prion disease, and his case has raised questions about whether Covid could have triggered the illness.

Doctors performed a series of tests on the man, including CT and MRI scans of the brain, "both of which were repeated twice and were normal without any diffusion restriction."

However, his condition continued to deteriorate.

"Approximately 3 weeks into hospitalization, the patient became progressively mute and had difficulty swallowing soft foods, requiring PEG [percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy] tube placement," the doctors wrote of the need for the feeding tube. "He subsequently became spastic with severe pain on passive flexion-extension. Six weeks after admission, the patient was declared dead."

The doctors in the report say the circumstances provide evidence of a "potential correlation" between Covid and neurodegenerative conditions.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Prion disease is "a family of rare progressive neurodegenerative disorders that affect both humans and animals. They are distinguished by long incubation periods, characteristic spongiform changes associated with neuronal loss, and a failure to induce inflammatory response." Prion diseases are fatal.

Symptoms of prion disease include changes in gait and difficulty walking, hallucinations, confusion, muscle stiffness, fatigue, and difficulty speaking, according to The Independent

The doctors in the report said that this is not the first time a patient has died from prion disease following Covid-19 infection. The doctors said that it has happened at least three other times since the virus emerged.

The report said, "Evidence in the literature about an association between COVID-19 and neurodegeneration is unclear," the study said. "Nonetheless, it is evident that multiple neurodegenerative conditions might be a result of pathogenic illnesses, most commonly prion disorders."
