Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya's aerial action thriller Sky Force experienced a 75% surge in earnings on Saturday, following a solid opening day at the box office.
As reported by Sacnilk, the film saw a 75.51% increase in earnings, raking in Rs 21.5 crore on Saturday alone. This brings its total earnings to Rs 33.75 crore after two days of release.
Sky Force has come as a much-needed relief for Akshay, marking his most successful movie release in years. The film opened to solid double-digit collections.
According to Sacnilk, Sky Force earned Rs 11.25 crore (net) on its opening day. The movie was made on a relatively modest budget of Rs 160 crore.
The last big hit in Akshay Kumar's career was Sooryavanshi (2021), directed by Rohit Shetty. It was made on a budget of Rs 160 crore and earned Rs 293 crore globally.
His last few releases, including Khel Khel Mein, Sarfira, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Mission Raniganj, Selfiee, Ram Setu, Raksha Bandhan, Samrat Prithviraj, and Bachchhan Paandey, all failed to make a mark at the box office.
Akshay's last major release, Singham Again, raked in Rs 372.4 crore globally, but that movie was led by Ajay Devgn and featured an ensemble cast, with Akshay appearing in a cameo. Additionally, he made a guest appearance in Stree 2, which performed well, earning Rs 857.15 crore worldwide.
Since the film's trailer launch, Sky Force has drawn comparisons to Fighter, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. Fighter was also released around Republic Day last year and made Rs 22.5 crore on its opening day. Fighter, with a production budget of Rs 250 crore, went on to become a success, grossing Rs 358.83 crore worldwide.
Sky Force is based on the untold story of India's first and deadliest airstrike, showcasing the events of the 1965 India-Pakistan War.
Veer Pahariya makes his acting debut as IAF officer T Vijaya, who goes missing in action during the war, while Akshay Kumar plays his fellow officer, KO Ahuja, who embarks on a mission to find him.
The film also features Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan in important roles. Sky Force is directed by Sandeep Kelwani and Abhishek Kapur.

Sanju Samson has been dominating headlines recently due to his ongoing feud with the Kerala Cricket Association. Following his Champions Trophy 2025 snub, the KCA said that he was not included in the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad after he skipped a preparatory camp and even asked him of 'lacking discipline'. Samson's father, Viswanath, has accused KCA of trying to end his son's career and recalled how Rahul Dravid played a key role in not letting that happen. Viswanath revealed that when Samson was 11 years old, Dravid intervened and even asked that people were jealous of him.
"I will tell you one incident about Rahul Dravid. When KCA had tried to disregard Sanju and destroy his career, Dravid ji had interfered in the matter. Wherever Sanju is at today, he owes it to Rahul Dravid. I have not forgotten anyone who has given us warmth and generosity. When action was being taken against Samson, they had given up his kit and everything else. Then, one day, we were all sad and sitting at home when Sanju got a call from Rahul sir. Sanju was overjoyed. He picked up the phone crying. The mood in the house was sombre," Samson Viswanath said on Sports Today.
"After keeping down the phone, he told me 'it was Rahul sir'. He said 'Sanju, I understand all that is happening with you. They are all jealous of you. Tu chinta mat kar (Don't worry). Don't get your morale down. I have taken care of it. You keep training and get ready for NCA'. He operated at a level higher than the KCA and took Sanju under his wings," he added.
In the first match of the ongoing T20I series, India won the toss and elected to field. England lost wickets at regular intervals, with only skipper Jos Buttler (68 off 44 balls, with eight fours and two sixes) putting up a fight for the Three Lions. England was restricted to 132 in 20 overs.
Chakravarthy (3/23) was the top wicket-taker for India, while Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel each took two wickets.
In the run-chase, Sanju Samson (26 off 20 balls, with four boundaries and a six) put on a 41-run stand with Abhishek Sharma (79 off 34 balls, with five fours and eight sixes), who single-handedly led India to victory with seven wickets and 43 balls to spare.
Varun Chakravarthy was awarded the 'Player of the Match' for his stellar bowling performance.

The Battle of Delhi is intensifying, with Rahul Gandhi joining the election campaign. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has received approval from the Home Ministry to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged liquor scam. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its second list of candidates, and as the deadline for nominations approaches, candidates from all parties are filing their papers.
For the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), it's a fight for survival; for the BJP, it's about prestige, and for the Congress, it's about relevance. Will the AAP score a hat trick, or will a rejuvenated Congress spoil its chances? Can the BJP make a comeback after a gap of almost 27 years?
The AAP and the Congress have been engaged in a war of words in Delhi since contesting as allies in the June 2024 Lok Sabha polls. While Ajay Maken called Kejriwal “anti-national”, Sandeep Dikshit has been fielded against the former chief minister from the New Delhi seat. Dikshit has ramped up his attacks on the AAP in a bid to recover lost ground. In response, the AAP has called for the Congress's removal from the INDIA bloc.
On Monday, Rahul Gandhi attacked Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that Kejriwal's campaigning style mirrored that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He accused the AAP of making false promises and blamed it for rising pollution and inflation. Kejriwal quickly responded, accusing Gandhi of abusing him. He claimed that both the BJP and the Congress were working in tandem and that the elections would expose their “jugalbandi" (duet).
The AAP has grown at the expense of Congress and other parties, particularly among Purvanchalis, the poor and lower socio-economic classes, minorities, and Dalits. Therefore, any gain for the Congress in the vote share is likely to come at the AAP's expense. In the 2008 assembly elections, the Congress recorded a 40% vote share, with the BJP, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Others getting 36%,14%, and 10% votes, respectively. In the next state elections in 2015, the AAP secured 54% votes and the BJP got 32%, while the Congress and Others got 10% and 4% votes, respectively. In 2020, the Congress's vote share further declined to 4%. Almost the entire vote chunk of the Congress and Others has been absorbed by AAP in assembly elections.
Meanwhile, whenever the Congress has improved its vote share in local body or general elections, it has been at the expense of the AAP. For example, in the 2017 MCD elections, the AAP couldn't win as the Congress recorded a 21% vote share—an 11 percentage point (pp) gain compared to the 2015 assembly polls. Similarly, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the AAP lost 36% of its vote share as the Congress saw a 13 pp gain and the BJP 25 pp, compared to the 2015 assembly elections. These AAP voters who shifted to the BJP may have been motivated by a preference for Arvind Kejriwal in the assembly and Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha. Similarly, the AAP voters who shifted to the Congress may have been anti-BJP voters, backing Kejriwal in the assembly and Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, as both were seen as better positioned to defeat the BJP in their respective elections.
In the 2020 Delhi assembly elections, the AAP secured 54% of the vote share, the BJP got 39%, the Congress 4%, and Others 3%. Both the Congress and the BJP lost around 18% of their votes compared to the 2019 general elections.
In the 2022 MCD elections, the AAP lost 12% of its vote share as the Congress gained 8%, compared to the 2020 assembly elections. The AAP won the close contest with 134 out of 250 seats, just eight more than the simple majority of 126. This was an election the AAP was expected to win comfortably as the BJP was battling a 15-year anti-incumbency.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP bagged 54% votes, the AAP 24%, the Congress 18%, and Others 4%, with the AAP and the Congress contesting as allies. According to trends from the past two election cycles (2014-15 and 2019-20), a section of voters swing between AAP-BJP and AAP-Congress from one election to the next.
The AAP holds a 15% lead over the BJP in assembly elections, a significant margin that is difficult to overcome. Meanwhile, the Congress has 10 to 15% of AAP's swing voters, who Kejriwal hopes will shift back to the AAP in the 2025 state elections. In the 2024 general election, the Congress secured 20% of Dalit and 34% of Muslim support, according to CSDS post-poll data, translating to an 8% vote share from these two communities. The BJP needs the Congress to retain some of these votes.
The AAP's 15% lead in 2020 can be broken down as follows: 3% votes from Hindus, 2% from Sikhs, and 10% from Muslims. The BJP led among upper castes and upper OBCs by 10%, while the AAP led among Dalits by 30%, Sikhs by 40%, and Muslims by 80%. The AAP's significant lead among Dalits and minorities gives it a real advantage over the BJP. In 2020, Congress received 13% of the Muslim vote and 4% of the Sikh vote, according to CSDS post-poll data.
The BJP hopes the Congress can regain some of its appeal among minority voters, who may feel uneasy with the AAP's soft Hindutva approach. If the Congress were to gain 15% more support from Muslims, Dalits, and Sikhs compared to 2020, it could reduce the AAP's vote share by around 5%, given that these communities make up 35% of the population.
If the BJP also manages to capture 5% of AAP's vote share due to anti-incumbency and middle-class disillusionment with the AAP—partly due to corruption allegations against Kejriwal and his top ministers—then the AAP could lose as much as 10% of its vote share. In the event of this 10% swing, the BJP could win 39 seats, while the AAP could secure 31 seats, based on the 2020 performance.
This election is unique in that the BJP is hoping for the Congress to perform well. The better the Congress does, the worse the AAP will fare in terms of vote share, given the complementary nature of their voter bases. This creates a dilemma for the Congress: campaigning aggressively would harm AAP and help the BJP.

Europe had experienced a great deal of heat from Donald Trump during his first term as president. He had cast doubt on the continuing relevance of NATO, viewed it as a financial burden on the US because the Europeans were not spending enough on their own defence, and demanded that they spend 2% of their GDP on defence. He showed his disdain towards the EU by supporting Brexit.
The belief that Russia had interfered in the US presidential election in Trump's favour had created misgivings that he might pursue a more flexible policy towards Moscow over the Ukraine conflict. His right-wing, nationalistic political orientation clashed with Europe's left-leaning liberalism. His Make America Great Again (MAGA) slogan created anxiety as it was considered inward-looking, protectionist and tending towards isolationism. European politicians were concluding that Europe and Trump's America no longer shared the same values.
Trump has now come back to power with a thumping majority. The Republicans have also won control of both houses of the US Congress. Trump is undoubtedly convinced that his re-election, despite all the legal and other efforts of the Democrats to disqualify and prevent him from fighting the election, has vindicated his proclaimed domestic and foreign policy agendas. Europe and others will have to cope with the unpredictability, impetuousness and self-assertion of this maverick president.
Trump, even before his inauguration, has put Europe under stress by his power play in questioning the continent's territorial integrity by laying claim to Greenland. During his first term, too, he had laid his eyes on Greenland, but this time ,he is brazen about acquiring it on grounds of “national security” and access to its natural resources such as oil, gas, lithium etc. Trump has threatened to pursue his claim with economic coercion or use of force, if necessary, as he considers ownership of Greenland an “absolute necessity”.
The president-elect clearly wants the US to become a major Arctic power in anticipation of the melting of the Arctic ice, which would open up a vital trade route between Europe/Asia and the Americas and allow mining of the oceans' rich resources of oil, gas and other minerals as well. At present, Russia dominates the Arctic geographically, and China is eyeing it too for its potential for trade connectivity. This is reminiscent of the ruthless great power politics of the 19th century.
This attack on Europe's territorial integrity puts Europe against the wall. Its dependence on the US for its security provides it no real option to resist. The response of European leaders has been to temporise and avoid challenging Trump head-on. The Danish prime minister recognises America's “security concerns”, while also stating that Greenland is not up for sale. The US already has a military base in Greenland, which can be expanded, and hence, the argument of security concerns seems debatable. The autonomous Greenland government has made hedging statements. The German Chancellor has resorted to a non-specific statement to the effect that the “inviolability of borders applies to all”. The French foreign minister has avoided mentioning the US by name while remarking that the EU would “not let other nations of the world attack its sovereign borders, whoever they are”.
The European Commission has refused to “go into the specifics” when asked to comment on Trump's claims. Van der Leyen, the head of the European Commission and Antonia Costa, the head of the European Council, stated evasively that the “EU will always protect our citizens and the integrity of our democracies and freedoms” and, rather pointlessly, that “we look forward to a positive engagement with the incoming US administration, based on our common values and shared interests. In a rough world, Europe and the US are stronger together”.
Europe is embarrassed and does not quite know how to respond adequately. Its geopolitical weakness has been exposed, diminishing its status as a collective power. It sees itself threatened by Russian power from the East and now by American power from the West—one an enemy and the other an ally. In Russia's case—which is unlike that of the US seeking to seize Greenland—it is not a territory belonging to an EU state that is being annexed or under threat of annexation. The message from all this is that Europe is unable to look after its own security. It depends on US-led NATO for protection, but it is the leader of NATO that is weakening NATO solidarity, with an uncomfortable message that Trump's America sees Europe as quasi-dispensable.
The quandary for Europe is that if it were to react strongly and decide to condemn the US territorial bid, it would need an internal consensus, and seeking one could divide NATO. The NATO edifice, which is considered vital for Europe's security by member states, especially in East and Central Europe, could well begin to crack, given Trump's known disdain for the transatlantic alliance. A strong anti-US reaction could also weaken Europe politically against Russia. Europe's no-holds-barred discourse against Russia for seeking to annex the territory of a sovereign state and allegedly altering the map of Europe for the first time since the Second World War, as against a compliant attitude towards the US for a somewhat similar goal, could well become unsustainable.
Europe's problem is that it cannot build its security simply on the basis of countries increasing their defence budgets individually. The smaller European countries—and there are many—increasing their defence budgets means little. To be autonomously secure, Europe needs to rely on its own arms industry, European countries to buy European-produced arms, and Europe to have some kind of a centralised European chain of command. This will require a deepening of the EU as a sovereign entity, on which there is no political consensus amongst Europeans.
As things are, European security has remained frozen in the Cold War matrix, with Russia being an enduring threat and the US standing as a bulwark against it. Although France and the UK are nuclear powers, their nuclear umbrellas are not politically acceptable to many European countries. They would prefer to rely only on the US nuclear umbrella, especially in the face of Russia's formidable nuclear arsenal.
European public opinion could get confused if tensions between the EU and the US over the Greenland issue become acrimonious, and could well begin to affect public attitudes towards Russia, with mounting support for some compromise with Russia over Ukraine instead of a complete refusal to engage in a dialogue with Moscow. The discourse, in some circles, could well turn into one of US imperialism versus Russian imperialism.
On the Ukraine issue, Trump's repeated declarations on engaging in a dialogue with Russia to find a solution, the statement by the incoming US National Security Adviser that Russia cannot be expelled from all the territory it holds, and the implied message that Ukraine will have to yield territory, as well as talk of arranging a Trump-Putin meeting, are huge political blows to Europe, whose leadership has persistently demonised Russia and Putin and closed doors to any dialogue with Moscow. Trump is upending Europe's position of complete alignment with the Biden administration's position on the Ukraine conflict. There is reported concern in Brussels that Trump may lift some sanctions on Russia as part of a potential deal.
Other than security issues, Trump's presidency could increase economic pressures on the EU. This will come in addition to the economic costs paid by the EU because of Ukraine-related economic sanctions on Russia. During his first term, Trump had targeted Germany for its mercantilist trade policies. Germany's current economic woes add to Europe's vulnerability to US economic pressures.
Trump's personal deep antipathy to ‘wokeism', DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and gender identity issues will be another clash of “values” with Europe. Elon Musk, who is amplifying many of Trump's political and social views, has already become a major headache for the European political class. He is openly interfering in European politics by, for instance, supporting the right-wing nationalist party (AfD) in Germany, and the right-wing Reform Party in the UK. He has brutally targeted prime minister Keith Starmer on the “grooming gangs” scandal, calling him “complicit in the rape of Britain”. Vice-president-elect J.D.Vance has also attacked the UK over not suppressing Islamism in the country. Trump Jr has joined in criticising the Labour Party too. This bodes ill for the US-UK special relationship.
All in all, Europe's dependence on the US and its limited margin of manoeuvre have been brutally exposed with Trump's coming ascension to the White House.

What is worse than an outrageous statement made by someone of note?
Writing about it.
What is worse than writing about it?
Researching about it.
What is worse than researching it?
Thinking about it.
What is worse than thinking about it?
Making sure that all this thinking is counted as ‘work' that is being clocked on a daily basis.
Work. It's an agent of both Eros and Thanatos. We live for and love work, or we die doing work. An oft-repeated quote on work attributed to Robert Frost, “By working faithfully eight hours a day you may eventually get to be boss and work twelve hours a day”, shows work to be the Janus-faced entity that it truly is. There are rewards and retributions attached to work and how we approach it.
When entrepreneurs and job creators extol the virtues of long work hours, it is imperative to examine the intent behind it. But let's look at the working habits of the rich and the poor before passing judgment on whether a 40-hour week needs to be buried in favour of a 90-hour week.
Factory workers are referred to as “hands” in Hard Times, Charles Dickens's novel set in 19th-century England. They work hard for very little. Their ‘weekend' seems to come not from any assertion of labour rights but religious reasons—Sundays were a holy day in the Christian world. The holiness of the Jewish world contributed to a longer weekend, with a free Saturday for observing Shabbat. The Islamic world observes Friday as a holy day meant to be away from work.
It was much later that labour laws in various countries codified humane working hours for “hands”. All of that has changed with the changing definition of the “hands”. Brains are the new hands. In an era of technological dominance, the brain makes an appearance on the work floor as the uniformed worker. There is a case to be made against the pedestrianising of the brain: it is, after all, deemed the most superior organ. But an organ it is, and, sometimes, it's the only organ that a person can use to earn a livelihood. When a technology giant makes a case for working more hours than the mandated ones, it is essential to understand what it really means. Simply put, technology sweatshops need brains to work overtime without paying them an overtime bonus.
Another idea emerging from this debate on work hours is the redefinition of the work the brain does. Is work to be defined as something that gets done within the punch-in, punch-out timeframe? Or does it also include the off-floor preparation it takes to be logged in? And what about networking and working the net?
Let's talk about the latter, too. In an ‘image' driven world, careful curations of personal life are put out to fetch professional gains. This ‘work' is not exclusive to those who earn a livelihood on the internet. All the work that goes into presenting oneself as a wealthy, urbane, intellectually engaging, and creative thinker has clear rewards. Like lying on one's resume and spreading fake news about one's qualifications through the grapevine, social media feeds are intended to grab attention for career progression opportunities. How does one quantify the hours spent there?
There's no place for laziness in a highly competitive, profit-driven world. What some of the 90-hour workweek supporters forget is that it takes two to tango. Productivity and quality do not generally get negatively impacted because people work less-than-necessary hours, but because they put less of themselves in the necessary hours. That's where management's laziness and poor judgement play a significant role. Hiring people who appear to work or forcing people to appear to work are problems that are created by the heads of organisations, rarely by the hands.
If workers are not paid for the extra hours demanded, the stretched work schedule will become a self-limiting problem. People, without the commensurate reward, will pretend to work. It serves the greedy managers right. Additionally, those who actually ‘work' in those extra hours may never be recognised for their contribution to the altar of productivity. They are the unsung martyrs.
Work has the bad habit of turning everything it touches into itself. Everything has the potential of becoming work. Even Rihanna's sexy song Work, which, according to Spencer Kornhaber, is “about working for a paycheck no matter what else is going on in your life”.
How much of it do we need?

It was earlier reported that Tiku had suffered a heart attack, but his wife, Deepti Talsania, clarified in a conversation with NDTV that it was, in fact, a brain stroke. She shared that the actor had attended a film screening and started feeling unwell around 8 pm.
"He suffered a brain stroke, not a heart attack. He had gone to attend a film screening and started feeling unwell around 8 pm. He was immediately admitted to the hospital," Deepti told NDTV.

Amid the surge in China, two cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) have been detected in Bengaluru, India. An eight-month-old who is recovering in the hospital and a three-month-old who has been discharged are the first reported cases of HMPV in India. Currently, China is witnessing an HMPV outbreak. According to social media posts, multiple viruses, including influenza A, HMPV, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and COVID-19, are circulating in China. Several videos and posts on social media suggest that hospitals are overwhelmed with individuals struggling with respiratory illnesses.
HMPV, first identified in 2001, is a respiratory infection that causes flu-like symptoms. It can affect people of all ages, however, young children(below 5 years), older adults and those with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk.
Cough, fever, nasal congestion, shortness of breath, and sore throat are a few symptoms of HMPV. These symptoms usually show up three to six days after you have been exposed to the virus. Severe illness due to HMPV may require hospitalisation.
HMPV spreads through direct contact with someone who has it. Touching contaminated surfaces, coughing, sneezing and shaking hands can spread the virus.
If symptoms worsen, one may develop severe cough, wheezing and shortness of breath. In such cases, it is crucial to seek medical assistance immediately.
Currently, there is no vaccine against HMPV. Treatment is mostly geared toward easing symptoms.
HMPV usually causes symptoms similar to the common cold, but some individuals can get very sick. Those infected for the first time with HMPV are more likely to get severely sick. Symptoms are milder if you get another HMPV infection.
You can reduce the risk of getting HMPV and other respiratory illnesses with these steps:
Individuals with preexisting lung diseases should be extra cautious and must follow all precautions.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to target AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal for his allegedly extravagant expenditure on the official residence of the Chief Minister of Delhi.
Mr Shah, addressing a public gathering, shared an anecdote: "Some children came to meet me at my home. I asked them, what has Arvind Kejriwal done for Delhi? One of the children said that he built a big 'Sheeshmahal' (glass palace) for himself. When he came into politics, he used to say he would not take a government car or bungalow. Today, he has built a 'Sheeshmahal' using Delhiites' money. Kejriwal ji, you will have to give an account to the people of Delhi."
This salvo follows PM Modi's criticism of AAP during the inauguration of several development projects in Delhi. PM Modi labelled AAP as an "aapda" (disaster) that has plagued the national capital for the past decade. In a swipe at Mr Kejriwal, PM Modi claimed that he could have constructed a 'Sheeshmahal' for himself but chose instead to prioritise building homes for the people.
The BJP has consistently attacked Mr Kejriwal over allegations of exorbitant spending on his official residence when he was the Chief Minister. An inventory released by the Public Works Department (PWD) in October last year showed luxurious appliances and renovations at the bungalow.
Responding to these accusations, Mr Kejriwal dismissed PM Modi's remarks yesterday as personal attacks and alleged that the BJP has failed Delhi over the past decade. Mr Kejriwal accused the BJP of lacking a chief ministerial face and substantive issues ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
"In 10 years, the BJP has not done a single significant thing in Delhi. They promised permanent housing by 2022 but have built only 4,700 houses in five years. Compare that to AAP's work: 22,000 classrooms, three new universities, and countless developmental initiatives," Mr Kejriwal said.
The BJP today released its first list for the Delhi Assembly elections. Parvesh Verma has been fielded from the New Delhi constituency to take on Mr Kejriwal while Ramesh Bidhuri will contest Delhi Chief Minister Atishi for the Kalkaji constituency.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated 1,675 flats for 'Jhuggi - Jhopri' (JJ) clusters and two urban redevelopment projects in the national capital today. The inauguration also saw the Prime Minister taking a swipe at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and the official residence of the Chief Minister of Delhi. "The country knows it well that Modi never built a home for himself but has built more than 4 crore houses for the poor; 'mai bhi koi sheeshmahal bana sakta tha' (even I could have built a Sheeshmahal)," PM Modi said at the event, alluding to recent allegations of exorbitant expenditures on the Delhi Chief Minister's residence.
Gautam Gambhir, the Indian cricket team coach, is in focus after the side's latest string on uninspiring performances. India's last major success came in June when it won the T20 World Cup, when Rahul Dravid was the coach. Then, Gautam Gambhir took over the role of India head coach. He was expected to oversee a period of transition in the Indian team. Since he took over, Gambhir has witnessed an ODI series loss against Sri Lanka, India getting clean-sweeped 3-0 by New Zealand at home in a Test series and some mundane displays in Australia with the side trailing 1-2 going into the final Test in Sydney. If India do not win the fifth Test, the side will be out of World Test Championship final race.
According to a report in news agency PTI, "It is learnt that Gambhir is not on the same page with most of the players in the team and the communication isn't as good as it used to be during the time of Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid.
"Skipper Rohit Sharma has maintained that he speaks individually to the players about selection issues. But after Gambhir took charge in July, Rohit, it is said, hasn't actually given clarity to some of the not-so-junior players about why they were being excluded at times from the side."
The report further claimed that players are not feeling secure with constant experimentation going on leading to instability.
"It is also reliably learnt that Gambhir, who is considered a more assertive person, hasn't earned a lot of confidence from the group of players, who aren't as old as Kohli or Rohit but are also not rookies like Harshit Rana or Nitish Reddy," report said.
"There is a Test match to be played and then there is Champions Trophy. If the performance doesn't improve, even Gautam Gambhir's position wouldn't be safe," a senior BCCI official told the news agency on conditions of anonymity.
Gambhir's equation with the selection committee is also not particularly clear at this point. There are players in the team, who are feeling insecure because of his proclivity to experiment with the playing eleven, the report said.
But if India's performance is not drastically better in the Champions Trophy in February-March, Gambhir will certainly have his wings clipped, the report added.
"He was never BCCI's first choice (it was VVS Laxman) and some of the well-known overseas names didn't want to coach all three formats, so he was a compromise. Obviously, some other compulsions were also there," the official said.

The hunt for Rohit Sharma's successor as Test captain seems to be in full swing despite the fact that he hasn't yet cleared the intent around the future. Though it was pace bowling icon Jasprit Bumrah who led the team in Rohit's absence in Perth, it has been reported that multiple players in the Indian dressing room were keen on the leadership role. It looks highly likely that Rohit's Test career will come to its inevitable end after the conclusion of the Australia tour if India don't qualify for the World Test Championship final. But, it seems like Bumrah isn't the only one in the race to fill the captain's spot in the longest format.
As per a report in Indian Express, a certain player in the team proposed his name for 'interim captaincy'. The same player also branded himself as 'Mr. Fix-It' while putting forward a case to resolve the current mess that the team seems to be in.
The player showing captaincy ambitions, however, isn't too impressed with certain young leadership candidates in the team. As per the report, he feels that certain youngsters, showing interest in leadership roles, still have some way to go.
It isn't yet known who the said interim captaincy candidate is but it is known that the player is one of the seniors in the team. There, however, are only a handful of senior members in the team. With Rohit already the skipper, he only has the company of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja among seniors.
As far as long-term Test captaincy goes, Bumrah seems to be the obvious choice at present. The pace sensation led the team beautifully in Perth, earning the tourists their first and only win of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy so far.
With Rohit expected to hang his boots in the longest format after the conclusion of the series, Bumrah is undoubtedly the No. 1 candidate to replace him. The vice-captaincy, however, might have two candidates in the form of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.
