Game changers can be made in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the Northeast

After the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections 2019, the atmosphere of changes in the political scenario of the BJP in the North-Eastern states is clearly visible. North-Eastern states are being considered as a game changer in this election. There are a total of 25 seats in eight states of the North-East. They have one or two seats except for the major states of Assam, the rest of the other states. Under normal circumstances, no major political party such as BJP or Congress will have given much attention to more seats like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu or Maharashtra, but this Northeast state can become a big game changer.

This time too, the BJP is not in a strong position, because it only rules literally in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, in Manipur and Tripura alliance with others. Its presence in the remaining three states of Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland is very low and the movement of the regional parties is on the back. There is no single seat in the 32-member Sikkim assembly and neither in other North-Eastern states. As far as Lok Sabha seats are concerned, the biggest presence of the party in Assam is with seven seats, while two seats in Manipur and one seat in Arunachal Pradesh. The remaining states do not have a single Lok Sabha seat, but there are associates in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Sikkim.

Seats Target in Lok Sabha Election

In the Lok Sabha elections, 2014 BJP had won out of 25 seats 7 in Assam and one in Arunachal Pradesh. Now in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP is targeting 21 seats from this region, which is finding it very difficult to look at the factual situation of this region.

Congress has    three seats and one CPM

Talking about the current situation, Congress has three Lok Sabha seats in Assam and one seat each in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. The Congress has a total of 6 seats. While the CPM has two seats in Tripura and the rest of the seats are from the regional parties like the Sikkim Democratic Front in Sikkim, Naga People's Front in Nagaland.

No big achievement with BJP

In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has no major achievement besides making a bogibil bridge in the last five years. The issue of preventing minorities coming from Bangladesh on other issues like NRC has removed many voters. In Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, BJP can get two seats. The same is also the case of Nagaland, Sikkim and Meghalaya. Except for rhetoric, the Modi government has not done anything remarkable for remote, landless and backward areas. There is a lot of discussion about Act East Policy, but there has not been much progress in this area. 97 percent of the border is engaged with neighboring nations. Successful foreign policy can get good results in this area.
