Ajay Mishra, a Minister of State for Home in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, described farmer leader Rakesh Tikait as "do kaudi ka aadmi (worthless)" in a controversial speech live-streamed by his supporters. In an exclusive interview to NDTV, Mr Tikait said, the Prime Minister should decide if such people are needed in his government. "Ajay Mishra has abused the farmers of the country, he should be sacked, " Mr Tikait said. The minister's comments followed Rakesh Tikait's 72-hour farmers' protest at Lakhimpur Kheri to demand Mr Mishra's sacking as a minister.
