The BJP, dominating the northeast, is trailing in two northern states it rules - Himachal Pradesh and Haryana in the bypolls for 29 assembly and three Lok Sabha seats. The Congress has won three assembly seats in Himachal, and is ahead in the race for Mandi. Senior Journalist Arati Jerath provided insight into the bypoll trends.
