"Could Have Built Sheeshmahal For Myself, But...": PM Jabs Arvind Kejriwal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated 1,675 flats for 'Jhuggi - Jhopri' (JJ) clusters and two urban redevelopment projects in the national capital today. The inauguration also saw the Prime Minister taking a swipe at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and the official residence of the Chief Minister of Delhi. "The country knows it well that Modi never built a home for himself but has built more than 4 crore houses for the poor; 'mai bhi koi sheeshmahal bana sakta tha' (even I could have built a Sheeshmahal)," PM Modi said at the event, alluding to recent allegations of exorbitant expenditures on the Delhi Chief Minister's residence.

Gambhir Under Scanner: Report Says "Players Insecure". Coach May Be...

Gautam Gambhir, the Indian cricket team coach, is in focus after the side's latest string on uninspiring performances. India's last major success came in June when it won the T20 World Cup, when Rahul Dravid was the coach. Then, Gautam Gambhir took over the role of India head coach. He was expected to oversee a period of transition in the Indian team. Since he took over, Gambhir has witnessed an ODI series loss against Sri Lanka, India getting clean-sweeped 3-0 by New Zealand at home in a Test series and some mundane displays in Australia with the side trailing 1-2 going into the final Test in Sydney. If India do not win the fifth Test, the side will be out of World Test Championship final race.

According to a report in news agency PTI,  "It is learnt that Gambhir is not on the same page with most of the players in the team and the communication isn't as good as it used to be during the time of Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid.

"Skipper Rohit Sharma has maintained that he speaks individually to the players about selection issues. But after Gambhir took charge in July, Rohit, it is said, hasn't actually given clarity to some of the not-so-junior players about why they were being excluded at times from the side."

The report further claimed that players are not feeling secure with constant experimentation going on leading to instability.

"It is also reliably learnt that Gambhir, who is considered a more assertive person, hasn't earned a lot of confidence from the group of players, who aren't as old as Kohli or Rohit but are also not rookies like Harshit Rana or Nitish Reddy," report said.

"There is a Test match to be played and then there is Champions Trophy. If the performance doesn't improve, even Gautam Gambhir's position wouldn't be safe," a senior BCCI official told the news agency on conditions of anonymity.

Gambhir's equation with the selection committee is also not particularly clear at this point. There are players in the team, who are feeling insecure because of his proclivity to experiment with the playing eleven, the report said.

But if India's performance is not drastically better in the Champions Trophy in February-March, Gambhir will certainly have his wings clipped, the report added.

"He was never BCCI's first choice (it was VVS Laxman) and some of the well-known overseas names didn't want to coach all three formats, so he was a compromise. Obviously, some other compulsions were also there," the official said.

India Star Keen To be 'Interim Captain' In Tests, Calls Himself 'Mr. Fix-It'

The hunt for Rohit Sharma's successor as Test captain seems to be in full swing despite the fact that he hasn't yet cleared the intent around the future. Though it was pace bowling icon Jasprit Bumrah who led the team in Rohit's absence in Perth, it has been reported that multiple players in the Indian dressing room were keen on the leadership role. It looks highly likely that Rohit's Test career will come to its inevitable end after the conclusion of the Australia tour if India don't qualify for the World Test Championship final. But, it seems like Bumrah isn't the only one in the race to fill the captain's spot in the longest format.

As per a report in Indian Express, a certain player in the team proposed his name for 'interim captaincy'. The same player also branded himself as 'Mr. Fix-It' while putting forward a case to resolve the current mess that the team seems to be in.

The player showing captaincy ambitions, however, isn't too impressed with certain young leadership candidates in the team. As per the report, he feels that certain youngsters, showing interest in leadership roles, still have some way to go.

It isn't yet known who the said interim captaincy candidate is but it is known that the player is one of the seniors in the team. There, however, are only a handful of senior members in the team. With Rohit already the skipper, he only has the company of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja among seniors.

As far as long-term Test captaincy goes, Bumrah seems to be the obvious choice at present. The pace sensation led the team beautifully in Perth, earning the tourists their first and only win of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy so far.

With Rohit expected to hang his boots in the longest format after the conclusion of the series, Bumrah is undoubtedly the No. 1 candidate to replace him. The vice-captaincy, however, might have two candidates in the form of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.
